Green Dinosaur is searching for a sustainability analyst to join our team in the West Coast Market!

You are technical-minded with building science knowledge ready to grow in 3 key areas: Sustainability Consulting, Energy Modeling, and Site Verifications. This position is for our Culver City Office or San Diego Office.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in building science, environmental science, or engineering -OR- equivalent experience is required.
  • 1-2 Years of professional experience in sustainability or building science with an aptitude of technical knowledge in architecture and/or engineering. 
  • Experience in reading and understanding architecture and/or mechanical drawing sets. 
  • Ability to digest complex information and details and grasp applicable strategies in a timely manner. 
  • Minimum LEED GA at the time of hiring. LEED BD+C, LEED EBOM, or LEED for Homes  within 6 months of hiring.  
  • A critical thinker with a strong aptitude for problem-solving and troubleshooting. 
  • Willingness to learn and interest in growing technical skillset in multiple directions of LEED consulting, Energy Modeling, and site verification work. 
  • Willingness to travel – Primarily within Southern California. Vehicle transportation, valid driverʼs license, and insurance are required.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, as well as great graphic communication skills for putting together presentations or reports with minimal supervision.
  • Must be able to work proficiently with personnel from an array of professions and backgrounds, including building owners, operators, contractors, engineers, and architects.
  • Ability to work independently and effectively close out tasks while maintaining a high level of excellence and efficiency. Must be able to prioritize and plan efficiently to drive projects to meet milestones and deadlines.
  • Proficient in using Microsoft Word, Excel, and G Suite.
  • US Citizenship is required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in Energy Pro 8 or IES energy modeling software. 
  • Proficient in Bluebeam Revu and Smartsheet. 
  • Project experience in LEED, WELL, Fitwel, Energy Star certification, or other green certification programs. 
  • Experience in producing architecture and/or mechanical drawing sets. 
  • Experience working on construction sites or performing site verification work. 
  • A demonstrated successful track record of managing projects and working with teams collaboratively.
  • Knowledge of current California Energy Code and T24/CalGreen Requirements. 
  • Professional licensure such as PE or EIT. 
  • Additional Sustainability related qualifications in addition to the above-required qualifications such as HER Rater, Green Rater, Certified Building Cx Professional, and Certified Energy Analyst are a plus.

Anticipated Responsibilities

General 

  • Maintain a good understanding of project schedules.
  • Effectively communicate and coordinate with internal and external team members. 
  • Utilize Smartsheet Sustainability Action Plan to effectively track project progress both overseeing the projects you are assigned to and projects you are collaborating on. 
  • Assisting the development of management and tracking tools through smartsheet. Update Sustainability Action Plan references and links. 
  • Maintain current project information in an organized and repeatable manner using smartsheet and google drive.
  • Contribute and support social media outreach and simple website updates for marketing purposes. 

Energy Modeling 

  • Review Architectural, Mechanical, Plumbing, and Electrical drawing sets and update energy model inputs as directed by the project manager. 
  • Create code compliance energy models using Energy Pro or IES Virtual Environment.
  • Validate energy modeling results and provide recommendations and improvements to meet project goals.

Sustainability Consulting 

  • Ability to prepare LEED Scorecard/Checklist assessment based on a set of plans.
  • Review plans & assess compliance to sustainability targets, providing useful feedback to the AE team. 
  • Understanding the specific LEED Homes and New Construction documentation requirements to close out credits successfully, including forms, calculations, plans, schedules, maps, and policies. 
  • Proficient in LEED project registration process, LEED online project setup (online scorecard, manage external team assignments), LEED online upload, and accurate project information inputs.
  • Perform Plan Reviews for CalGreen & LEED compliance and provide guidance using the SAP tool. 
  • Perform construction phase  Submittal reviews and material tracking for LEED and CALGreen.
  • Understanding of CalGreen requirements and how they overlap with LEED. 
  • Basic understanding of EA and Cx credit requirements and how they fit into a project schedule and influence other sustainability targets of a project.  

Commissioning(Cx) 

  • Knowledge of the Commissioning process and how it relates to Energy Modeling, LEED certification, and Code Compliance. 
  • Perform Cx Design Review and give guidance to MEP engineers. 
  • Prepare Functional Performance Checklists and schedule site testing visits between contractors and internal staff. 
  • Perform Commissioning functional testing site visits for projects with simple systems as well as participate in some site visits with complex systems.
